The study also found that almost half of youngsters never or rarely help prepare evening meals, even though around a third of parents want them to take part. The poll for the supermarket chain Morrisons said 37 per cent of children preferred watching television or surfing the internet to cooking.

2 The number of Japanese people hitting the landmark age of 100 has reached record levels. Japan has one of the world's longest life expectancies, but there are concerns about the burden this is placing on society. According to the latest figures, almost 20,000 people were set to turn 100 this year alone – receiving a congratulatory silver cup and letter from the prime minister. The key to Japanese longevity has long been put down to a number of factors, including healthy diets, strong communities and excellent medical care.

3 The tiny Tuscan island of Montecristo, whose mysterious history is filled with saints, monks and pirates, is to be opened up to the public for the first time. The diamond-shaped island, which is around four square miles in size, was immortalized by Alexandre Dumas in The Count of Monte Cristo as the site of an enormous hidden treasure. The waters were regularly patrolled to make sure the island's population of monk seals, dolphins, tuna and rare birds was not disturbed. Dumas arrived on the island in 1842, in the company of Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew. "It is fantastic and lonely, smelling of thyme and broom," he wrote, in a letter. He decided to write The Count of Monte Cristo to remind him of the trip.

It is natural for humans to use animals for food and clothing” It is debatable whether it is true. On the world there are plenty of organizations defending animals-these are mostly vegetarians and vegans. On the other hand, more and more people regularly eat meat and buy the fur coats.Opponents of people who uses animals for food and clothing, also called “Greens”, say that it’s wrong to use living creatures for our needs. Firstly, they ask us to imagine if animals started to use humans for their needs, what we would do and so on. Secondly, they say that it’s kinder to animals, cheaper and healthier to live as a vegetarian. “Greens” also say that modern man can choose what to eat because it’s not a prehistoric times. All in all, although some people are against that humans are using animals for their needs, people won’t stop doing this, because it’s natural for us to use animals for food and clothing. Above all, everyone has rights to choose what to eat..
