Now, I began. I woke up at about 7 o'clock and got up. I went to the bathroom where I took a cold shower and went back to the bedroom to dress. Then I went for breakfast at 8.15. After breakfast I sat and read the newspapers or in summer I had a walk round my garden. I went into my study at 9 o'clock and met my students there, and the day's work began. At midday I had a break for lunch. I finished my work about 5 o'clock. Then I went home and joined to Mrs. Priestley for aftemoon tea in the living-room. In summer I played a few games of tennis or went to the golf dub and had a round of golf. We had dinner at 8 o'clock. Sometimes in summer we took out the car and went for a drive in the country, in winter we went to the cinema or to the theatre. Often we just had a quiet evening at home. Our son John was at University and Margaret was at boarding-school now, so there were only the two of us at home. We sat and talked, or Mrs. Priestley played the piano. And I thought that these quiet evenings are the best of all.
