Russia was the largest country in the world by area. Its area was about 17 million square kilometers. The population of Russia was 50 million people; 85% of them are Russian. Russia was a constitutional republic, the head of state was the president (Vladimir Putin). In Russia there were a lot of plains, mountains, forests, steppes, rivers and lakes. Here was the deepest lake in the world - Baikal, 1,600 meters deep. The climate in the northern part of Russia was arctic, in the central part was continental, in the southern part was subtropical. Russia was very rich in minerals and substances. It produced oil, natural gas, coal, iron, gold, copper and much more. In addition to industry, agriculture was well developed in Russia.
