Some of my friends are addicted to the Internet. They are either news-o-holics or overly-sociable on Facebook. They give up on real life in order to spend more time in web. It has great and negative impact on their lives.
In conclusion, people can get addicted to the Internet fast, but with its advantages it is really difficult to give up on using it.
