On August 13, the Thriller "Who am I"by German Director Baran Bo Odar is released in Kazakhstan. This question is asked by the main character of the film – a young man from Berlin named Benjamin (Tom Schilling), who considers himself a loser and "invisible", but wants to prove his importance to the world.
The unusual thing about this outsider and freak is that he understands "computer language". The guy "hangs" in the Darknet-a network where users can anonymously communicate and share files without surveillance and interference from the authorities, as well as hone their hacking skills.
On community service, assigned as punishment for a failed attempt to hack a University server, Benjamin meets max-the mastermind of a small team of hackers. It is he who draws the young man into the world of unpunished jokes and boundless fun.
Having had a lot of fun under the collective pseudonym CLAY (Clowns laugh at you — "Clowns laugh at you"), the guys decide to achieve respect and recognition of the coolest hacker of the Darknet, who calls himself MRX. This is where the fun begins. Guys hack into the foreign intelligence server, encounter the Russian cyber mafia, attract the attention of Europol, get on the covers of magazines, Newspapers, and TV news and become the most wanted hackers in the world.
After playing, Benjamin recklessly gives secret files to his idol MRX, which he uses for criminal purposes. Realizing how much he is "in trouble", Benjamin turns to Europol agent Hannah Linberg for help. The guy's honest story seems to the woman confusing and sometimes implausible. After checking Benjamin's background, she comes to the conclusion that he has a stratification of personality.
Fans of carnage, automatic bursts and explicit scenes may find the film boring. In this cybertriller, there are no shootouts, there is only one small fight, two kisses and three shell casings (and then the second world war). Note that this is not a Hollywood movie – there are no superstars in it. And the name, at first glance, seems hackneyed and unpromising. But it only seems so.
The film is not devoid of special effects, melodic soundtracks and, most importantly, intrigue. Who Benjamin really is will only become clear at the end of the film
