are you a football widow or widower?
my wife jill scoffs at the national football league. she has reimagined its acronym: the no family league. that happened a few years back when the nfl began playing and televising games on thursday nights. another family distraction in her eyes, which by now were rolling like weezie jefferson's.
"so, now they are playing on weekends and weeknights? the nfl doesn't like families does it? " she huffed.
this isn't as much of an issue at my house as jill makes it out to be. i don't have a man cave. my 13-year-old mitsubishi flat screen is decidedly low-tech and weighs 300 pounds. it takes up half the room. and i'm no rabid fan, except when the cowboys are playing. the boys never come over. and you can seldom find me in a sports bar. so, in reality, jill should feel grateful. she is not what i call a "football widow." some of my friends are much, much worse. now that the second full week of nfl play just ended, i decided to ask members of the enquirer education and family roundtable to give advice on how to handle this season, which creates football widows and widowers from coast to coast.
