School Uniform
School uniform appeared in the 16th century in England. It was a long blue coat for orphans and children from poor families. In modern Britain there are old schools where school uniform has not changed for centuries, and pupils of these schools like to wear it. In Germany school uniform is rare, and in Italy there is no school uniform at all, because in these countries it is associated with the Nazi regime.
The style of school uniform can be influenced by a country’s tradition or climate. In Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore, schoolgirls wear a uniform designed on the basis of British sailor suit. In Australia, because of the hot climate, even high school students are allowed to wear uniform shorts instead of trousers.
In Russian schools and in most American schools there is no mandatory uniform, but often there is a dress code or rules for wearing business-style clothes.
As you can see, school uniform has been around for a long time, although all this time people have been discussing whether it is necessary to wear uniforms at school.
