When I started to learn English and realized that I enjoyed it I decided that after finishing school I would learn to become a translator. I used to imagine myself translating fascinating novels from English into Russian while sitting in my study with lots of dictionaries on the bookshelves around.
I love learning and I think that translators are people who learn all their lives. They translate fiction, documents of all sorts, business letters, advertisements, web-site contents. Variety is one of the best things about translation: every day translators do something different, unlike some jobs where people deal with the same things every day. I also like the fact that translators have the time to look up words and form the best sentence they can — as opposed to interpreters who have very little time and cannot use dictionaries or other reference materials. I would like to be a translator of fiction because I want to introduce Russian-speaking people to great stories written in English. I already know that translators usually translate texts into their native language and they must be able to write well in it, so I make every effort to learn Russian well and I read a lot. Besides, I am introverted and I think it will not be difficult for me to work on my computer for long periods of time. One more advantage of this job is that it can be done remotely.
I believe that this profession fits my personality and I hope to do my best to become a good translator.
