Dear Darren, First of all, we are going to do a lot of sightseeing. We are going to see the Kremlin, Red Square, St Basil's Chruch, Lenin's Tomb, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and The State History Museum. Dad is also going to take us to the famous Bolshoi Ballet theatre. Isn't it wonderful? My sister wants to go on a day trip down the Moskva River but Dad says it's too tiring, so we are not going to travel there. That's OK though because we are going to spend a whole day in the Moscow Zoo, the largest zoo in Russia which has a great collection of animals and exotic species.
I'm going to take lots of interesting pictures to show you when I get back. I'm also going to bring you a Matryoskha.
Mum can't wait to go shopping. She wants to visit the GUM department store, the largest department store in Russia, where you can find everything from clothes to caviar. She says she needs to have a whole day there. As for me, I'm going to taste as many local dishes as possible. Russian cuisine is delicious and their pies and chocolates are just great. I hope I can fit in my clothes when we come back.
Greetings from Moscow! I arrived here with my family yesterday and we're already excited! The city is terrific and there are a million things to do.
Take care, Lucy

A hurricane (ураган) is a severe storm. To be called a hurricane, a storm must have wind speeds at least 75 miles (120 kilometers) an hour.

1. People who live around the Pacific Ocean call hurricanes typhoons (тайфун). People who live on the Indian Ocean call them cyclones (циклоны). Hurricanes begin over warm tropical oceans.

2. They are like giant spinning (вращающиеся) wheels of storm clouds, wind and rain. The centre of a hurricane is a narrow column of air that spins very slowly. This is the "eye" of hurricane.

3. Here the weather is surprisingly calm with low winds and clear skies.

Tornadoes are terrible windstorms. Most of them happen in North America, but they can occur anywhere in the world.

4. If hurricanes are strong winds that build up over the sea, tornadoes build up over land.

5. They happen when large masses of cloud meet. When a tornado touches the ground, it sucks (втягивает) up anything in its path – trees, houses and people. On the 4 September 1981 a tornado hit Ancona, a place in Italy. It lifted a baby asleep in its pram.

6. into the air set it down safely 100 metes away. The baby was still sleeping soundly.

I used to wear glasses when I was at school, and so I found sport very difficult. I wanted to be involved in school sports competitions, and I loved the idea of teams competing with each other, but being on the rugby team, for example, meant having to take off my glasses, and that meant that I couldn’t see! And it’s difficult to catch a ball when you can’t see it! So, I wasn’t very good and the captains always made sure that I wasn’t on their team. This meant I was free to do other activities, like being on the debating team, and actually I preferred to do things I was good at doing rather than have everyone laugh at me.
