Firstly, it leads to the love of money for its own sake, to meanness to others, to selfishness, to greed and to personal lifestyle, which is unduly frugal. Secondly, one of the major reasons why people believe that money is the root of all evil is the vast economic gap between the rich and the poor. Each year millions of people die of hunger, while other people are billionaires and live in luxury.

On May 4, 1699, I sailed from Bristol for the south seas on a ship named the Antelope. There was a great storm. The ship crashed into the rocks. Some of the sailors and I had to get a small boat into the water. We all fell into the sea, when a big wave hit the boat. I was swimming for a very long time. Finally I reached the shore. There were no houses and no people. I was so tired. I lay down and fell asleep.
