In 1898, Maria Sklodowska-Curie announced the possibility of the existence of a new, highly radioactive element in uranium tar ore. Vladislav taught mathematics and physics in schools in Warsaw. Her mother, Bronislaw Boguska, ran the prestigious Warsaw School for Girls. After Maria's birth in 1868, Vladislav was appointed a teacher at another school on Novolipskaya Street, so Bronislava was forced to leave her post due to relocation.
