My Favorite Subject Literature Literature is my favorite subject in school, for several reasons. Firstly, I really love reading and I think this is the most interesting occupation and the most rewarding hobby. In literature lessons and during extracurricular conversations, the literature teacher becomes a guide through the world of my favorite books. He helps me understand and comprehend what I have read, asks for my opinion, teaches me to formulate my thoughts, recommends reading some of his favorite books that are suitable for my age. So, literature lessons at school help me to systematize my knowledge. Secondly, in literature lessons we are introduced to a select circle of works of Russian classics. These works have been carefully selected for the school curriculum for more than a decade, they have passed the test of time and have become universally recognized world masterpieces. In the lessons, we get acquainted with the history of Russian literature, starting with epics and songs that formed at the dawn of the Russian state, and ending with stories and novels created in the last century. The history of Russian literature fascinates me very much. It is always interesting to immerse yourself in the past of your own country, especially if it is the past of its fine arts. It is curious to find out what worried people two, three hundred years ago, in what realities they lived, what they believed in, how and what they loved, what they strove for, what they lived for

Thirdly, literature is a journey not only in time, but also in space. The works under study make it possible to transfer from the forests of the Russian hinterland to ancient cities, from the semi-fairy Little Russia "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka" by Gogol to the melancholic, gray, oppressive Petersburg "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky. Literature lessons are the best excursions we do without leaving the classroom. Fourthly, literature is acquaintance not only with times and places and their customs, but also acquaintance with individuals. It is clear that their lives were strikingly different from ours today. Nevertheless, the eternal problems of mankind, which the classic authors raise in their works, are therefore called "eternal", which retain their relevance to this day. I turn to literature for advice, for answers to questions of concern to me - and if I cannot figure out the answer on my own, I resort to the help of a sympathetic teacher who always explains especially difficult passages for me, gives keys to unraveling the most complex and stubborn human characters. So, literature is my favorite school subject. This is an opportunity to know yourself, to organize your thoughts, to build a system of perception of the world, space, time; look deep into the human soul and find answers to exciting questions.
