A computer system is a collection of components that work together to process data. The purpose of a computer system is to make it as easy as possible for you to use a computer to salve problems. A functioning computer system combines hardware elements with software elements. The hardware elements are the mechanical devices in the system, the machinery and the electronics that perform physical functions. The software elements are the programs written for the system: these programs perform logical and mathematical operations and provide a means for you to control the system. Documentation includes the manuals and listings that tell you hour to use the hardware and software. Charles Babbage, British mathematician and inventor, who designed and built mechanical computing machines on principles that anticipated the modern electronic computer. In the 1820's Charles Babbage began developing his Difference Engine, a mechanical device that could perform simple mathematical calculations. For the creation of the difference machine, Babbage was awarded the first gold medal of the Astronomical Society. However, the small differential machine was experimental, as it had a small memory and could not be used for large calculations. In the 1830's Babbage began developing his Analytical Engine, which was designed to carry out more complicated calculations, but this device was never built. Babbage's book "Economy of Machines and Manufactures" (1832), initiated the field of study known today as operational research.

Together with friends we drove in a sleigh, made snowmen, played snowballs and just had fun. In the evening I watched TV, talked on the phone with friends and occasionally played on the computer. The second week my family took me to a winter resort. I don’t ski very well, so it was hard in the beginning to learn how to ski down mountain slopes. But the next day, I learned to keep balance and fell to the ground only a few times. At a ski resort we spent 4 days. During this period I managed to make friends and girlfriends, with whom now I keep in touch and correspond through the internet. We hope to see one another again at the same place next year. By the end of winter break my spirits fell. Suddenly it came in on me that I had not done some homework. But still there were a couple of days left, and I had time to do the tasks before the beginning of classes. How quickly vacations end! And how long a school year lasts! За это время я успел завести друзей и подруг, с которыми сейчас поддерживаю связь и переписываюсь по интернету. Мы надеемся снова встретиться в том же месте в следующем году. К концу зимних каникул мое настроение резко упало. Я вспомнил, что я еще не выполнил некоторые домашние задания. Но все же у меня оставалось в запасе пару дней, и я успел сделать задания да начала занятий. Как же быстро заканчиваются каникулы! И как долго тянется учебный год!
