Dear Helen,
Don’t be angry with me for my long silence, but really I
was too busy to write.
As you know, I left school in June and began to prepare for
my entrance exams to the University. As both my mother and
father are teachers I have made up my mind to be a teacher too.
I think teaching is a noble profession.
I had to take four exams and passed all of them with excel
lent marks. So I’m glad to tell you that now I’m a firstyear stu
dent at the Moscow State Teacher Training University.
I should like to show you the main building of our University.
I can’t help admiring this fine old building with its beautiful
columns. The first students entered it more than 120 years ago.
It goes without saying we, students, are very proud of this
fact.
There are 18 faculties at our University which train teachers
in many subjects: Russian, Literature, Mathematics, Physics,
Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Foreign languages and others.
Many wellknown professors teach at our University.
We have good libraries and readingrooms and for those who
go in for sports there are good gymnasiums and a stadium.
At present we have quite a lot of work as we have English
practice, Grammar and Phonetics, Linguistics, History of our
native land and other subjects. There is an English speaking
club at our faculty. It gives us a good opportunity to master
the language, but I don’t take part in it yet. I’m working hard
at my pronunciation. There is a good language laboratory at our
faculty where we work with cassetterecorders. It helps us to
find out our mistakes and to get rid of them in the shortest
possible time.
So that’s the latest news about myself. Please write to me
about your life and studies.
My best regards to your parents.
Yours,
Ann.
I am going to tell you about my school. My school is new and modern and I like it very much. It has three floors. The classrooms are light and spacious. There are classrooms for different subjects, such as English, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology Literature etc.
There is a computer class in our school. We study computer science here. The computer class has the most modern equipment and the Internet access.
We’ve also an assembly hall, which is situated on the second floor. Meetings, conferences, concerts and all the celebrations take place here. We prepare different performances for all holidays. We sing songs, recite poetry, dance, and participate in theatre performances.
There are many opportunities to go in for sports in our school. Our school has a gym, a sports ground, a football field, a swimming pool, and other sports facilities. There are many different sports groups: table tennis, swimming, athletics, football, volleyball, wrestling, and rhythmic gymnastics. Many pupils of our school attend these sports groups.
In our school we have also painting group, dance group, theatre group and rock group. All these groups are very popular and many pupils attend them.
The teachers in our school are very skilled. They try to give us all their knowledge and awake our interest to their subjects and to self study. Besides the school subjects, our teachers tell us about everything, about different problems of our world, such as ecology, nature protection, climat changes etc.
There is a good tradition in our school. Every year people who graduated our school come here to meet their teachers and classmates. These meetings take place every first Saturday of February.
I think that school years are very important for every person. It’s a period of becoming adult, achieving knowledges, and choosing your way in life. Often school friends remain your friends for all your life. So I’ll never forget my school, my teachers, and my classmates.
The school I would like would have a swimming pool.
I'd have one for the first and second years and also for the third and fourth years. The playgrounds would be separate, one for the young children and the other for the senior forms. A wall would be separating them and there would be a door from one playground to the other.
The classrooms would have carpets instead of lino. The desks would be painted and the chairs would have cushions. The chairs would also be painted.
There would be a computer for every table in the classroom. There would be at least 12 videos for each classroom. The hall would be very big, about 40 metres long and 30 metres wide.
The lessons would be interesting. There would be lots of French and German and English.
There would be four floors at the school. There would be a lift to take us up. The staffroom would be much bigger than the one we have now.
It would be light and cosy. There would also be a big library. There would be a lot of instruments: flutes, guitars, drums, etc.
The school meals would have different food every day. There would be lots of visits to concerts and parks.
The tests would be easier for children.
