At first, I would like to explain the meaning of the phrase "risk-conscious". The word "risk" means the possibility that something dangerous and bad may happen, and the word "conscious" means aware, awake and able to understand what is happening around you. So, "risk-conscious" is a feeling when we realize the risks and, respectively, think about the consequences too much.
Life is extremely short. We all have dreams and desires. However, choosing something to do, people think too much over pros and cons of their decisions. As we have only one life and, it is reasonably enough to ponder over the risky implications. And, considering these pros and cons, we largely muse about cons and come to the worst alternative. Is it really too risky and dangerous? Or, are we too risk-conscious these days? I suppose that we really are too risk-conscious. This feeling has been developing over many years. And nowadays people too often reflect on the risks and their consequences. Having expressed my opinion, I will give some arguments to answer the question "why are we too risk-conscious these days?".
I will give an example of parachuting. Is it risky? No. Is it scary? I believe it is. Jumping with a parachute, people want to experience a wonderful feeling — you can fall on the grass and look at the sky while landing. How wonderful is it to fly and feel the blowing of light wind! But the only problem is fear. No matter how strong his desire to jump is, he is afraid of the risk as believes that it may cause an accident. He or she will get an injury and stay in hospital, as a result, he has to spend lots of money on medical treatment and will be incapable of work.
The most widespread risks are perceived risks. Such risks, first off all, are dictated by fear, lack of confidence and the question constantly swirling in your head: "And what will other other think or say about me?". For example, you would like to come and get acquainted with a woman. However, you do not do this because you are too shy of her reaction, afraid not to be to her taste or just assuming that she has already had a beloved man and etc. But what happens if it fails? You will only experience a moment of awkwardness of communicating with the person unfamiliar to you. Is it really scary to risk for a momentary embarrassment for the opportunity to meet the love of your life?!
So, I have given some examples of risk-consciousness. I am sure that each of us has had a similar situation at least once a life. That is why I can say for sure that we are too risk-conscious these days. Although, sometimes it can be good and useful for the future. But usually it is not. As I have already said, thinking about something we want to do, we decide that it is very risky and dangerous for us. But making mistakes, even they are really risky, we learn from them. In any case, risk is one of the best ways of learning. So, at the end of my essay I can conclude that we are too risk-conscious human beings, and because of risk-consciousness we lose opportunities to try something new that probably can change our lives. We must overcome our small and foolish risks without possible consequences. Even if something does not work, you will get valuable experience, become wiser, more courageous and resolute. I believe that we should risk to feel incredibly strong emotions. It is a kind of shock to the body, a lever, including a love to life. Risk means to believe in yourself, open new sides of your character and not to be afraid of possible failures. As a great English playwright and poet William Shakespeare said: "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we often might win by fearing to attempt".
