Model 1: A. I know five languages.
В. I wish I knew five languages, (stress on the second "I")
Or: B. If only I knew five languages! (this form is much more dramatic and
less generally useful then the "I wish" form)

4.I understand it.
5.My son writes every week.
6.My house looks out on a park.
7.I can take a day off any time.

Model2: A. I asked Bill.
В. I wish you'd asked Tom too.
Or: B. If only you'd asked Tom too. ("had" is normally contracted here)
1.I invited Paul.
2.I stopped Mary.
3.I rang Ann.
4.I wrote to Alex.
5.I spoke to John.
6.I warned Philip.
7.I voted for Peter.

1. I wish I had a flat here. (I want to have a flat in this place, but unfortunately I don't)
2. If only I lived near my work! (I really wish I lived near my workplace, it would be so convenient)
3. I wish I had plenty of time for reading. (I want to have more time to read, but currently I don't have enough)
4. If only I understood it. (I really wish I could understand it, but unfortunately I don't)
5. I wish my son wrote every week. (I want my son to write to me every week, but he doesn't do it regularly)
6. If only my house looked out on a park! (I really wish my house had a view of a park, it would be so beautiful)
7. I wish I could take a day off any time. (I want to have the freedom to take a day off whenever I want, but currently I can't)

1. I wish you had invited Paul. (I think it would have been nice if you had invited Paul, but you didn't)
2. If only you had stopped Mary! (I really wish you had stopped Mary from doing something, it would have been better)
3. I wish I had rung Ann. (I regret not calling Ann, I should have done it)
4. If only I had written to Alex. (I really wish I had written a letter to Alex, but I didn't)
5. I wish I had spoken to John. (I wanted to talk to John, but unfortunately I didn't get the chance)
6. If only I had warned Philip! (I really wish I had warned Philip about something, it would have been helpful)
7. I wish I had voted for Peter. (I regret not voting for Peter, I believe he would have been a good choice)
