The Thames is not a long river. It is three hundred and thirty kilometres long and it runs into the sea. The English people call it “the Father of London”. London began on the Thames. When we go in a ship up the Thames we pass under London Bridge, the Tower Bridge and others. There is a museum of old ships on the Thames. These ships are from the history of Great Britain. One of these ships, the “Discovery”, went to the South Pole in 1901 — 1904.
If we go down the Thames we pass the port of London and get to Greenwich — a very old town. We can see the place where the Greenwich Meridian passes.

Russian poet, playwright and novelist. Member of the Russian Academy (1833).
Most of the biographers and bibliographers of Pushkin say of him as the great or greatest Russian poet, as the Creator of modern Russian literature, in his works, which approved the norms of modern Russian literary language. His works are recognised benchmark of language, like the works of Dante in Italy or Goethe in Germany.
During the life of the poet became known as a genius, including print. The second half of the 1820-ies he was considered "the first Russian poet" not only among contemporaries, but also by Russian poets of all time, and around his person among the readers has developed a cult following.
