It's 7:30 pm at Lisa's house and she's in her room doing her homework. However , homework is just one of the things she's doing while her eyes are fixed on the computer screen. As well as studying for her Biology exam, Lisa is also listening to music, chatting with her best friend online, downloading songs and occasionally texting people on her mobile phone. '' My parents keep telling me off for multi-tasking while studying, but they don't understand that it helps me concentrate,'' she says.
It's not unusual for human beings to do several things at the same time but in our fast-paced technological society, the situation has come to a head. Young people today spend nearly 6 1/2 hours a day using various types of media, doing different things at the same time. This is the reason why they are called the multi-tasking generation, or Generation M. But how do their brains deal with multi-tasking? Automatic actions like walking and chatting on the phone can be done at the same time, but when it comes to learning new information , multi-tasking has a bad impact.
''Multi-tasking affects how you learn in a negative way,'' says Russell Poldrack , Associate Professor of Psychology at UCLA. Dividing your attention between too many activities makes the knowledge you gain harder to use later on. The researchers are not saying you shouldn't multi-task, just don't multi-task while you are trying to learn something new.
According to specialists, it is also essential to take time away from electronic media. ''At the sound of the bell, all my students reach into their bags and grab their mobile phones to text message their friends. It is as if they're afraid of silence,'' says Casey Roberts, a secondary school teacher. ''Their MP3 players, laptops and games consoles have become extensions of themselves. I really thing that Generation M should take time to relax and reflect. There's life beyond the screen and the pleasure of face-to-face communication can be neither denied nor replaced''.

In a small flat in a tiny town lived a Teddy Bear. He lived there with his mother Georgia, who worked as a nurse in a local hospital. The Teddy Bear was very kind and a bit shy. He had only one friend - Dolly the Doll. She was very cute, by the way, and the Teddy Bear admired her very much. Once she told him: 'Hey, Teddy, you've grown up and now you're 7! You should go to school and study some subjects in there'. The Teddy Bear doubted weather he needed the education as he hadn't ever felt uneducated. 'I don't want to go to school, Dolly, I enjoy spending my time with you and with my mother.'
However, after a while he liked the Dolly's suggestion. He found out that in the future he would need to pay for his living and for the food and other goods he would buy. So he realised that he needed a profession to gain money. And the only way to get a profession is to study for it. 'You were right, Dolly, - he said to her one day when they were sitting on the bench in the Town Park, - I should go to school. Now I'm 7 year old and I ought to start thinking about my future life.' The Dolly was pleased and was very proud of her friend.
And when autumn broke out, the Teddy Bear started attending the local school.

The Cat lay down pretending to be dead. He held his bag open hoping that a rabbit and partridges get inside his bag. I think the cat was very cunning and clever. He knew what to do and he succeeded.

1. If I was a King I would be extremely surprised to hear that some cat wants to see me. I would be more surprised if I saw a cat in boots. Besides this the Cat could talk and brought me gifts. So, I would think that he is the cleverest cat I have ever seen and his master is a generous and very rich person. I would be grateful for his gifts and attention and of course would like to meet him personally.
2. The first present was unexpected. But the second one was a relly huge surprise. The Cat brought me two partridges. It's more than one rabbit last time. It means that the Cat's master respects me a lot and wants to express this deep respect. I like both gifts and can't even choose which one is better. So, to thank the Cat I decided to send him to the kitchen where he got the bast food and drinks from my own cooks.

VII.
1. For my last birthday I have got a new iPhone. It is a cool present, I liked it a lot. I still use my iPhone and it helps me a lot in my everyday life.
2. I give different presents to other. It depends on what persons they are, what they like and how close to each other we are. If it is my closest friend I can present something funny. But usually I try to present useful things. It is really hard to find a good present now because people usually have everything they need. But still I think that a book is the best present. There are a lot of modern writers now whose books are interesting and worth to read. So, I read them myself and give to my friends as a present.
