I'd like to tell you about Stephen Hawking. Stephen William Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, England. His father, a well-known researcher in tropical medicine, urged his son to seek a career in medicine, but Stephen found biology and medicine were not exact enough. Therefore, he turned to the study of mathematics and physics. He's a famous physicist. He first studied at Oxford. Then he began to study at Cambridge, where he became a Professor of mathematics. He studied the theory of the creation of the world as a result of the Big Bang. He also studied the theory of black holes. Stephen Hawking is perhaps best known for his discovery, in 1974, that black holes emit radiation. Professor Hawking had twelve honorary degrees, was awarded the CBE in 1982, and was made a Companion of Honour in 1989. He was the recipient of many awards, medals and prizes and was a Fellow of The Royal Society and a Member of the US National Academy of Sciences. Stephen Hawking combined his family life, and his research in theoretical physics together with an extensive programme of travelling and public lectures.
Thirty years ago, doctors said that he had 2 years to live. Soon he was paralyzed. After a serious illness, he had problems with his lungs. Later, Hawking lost the ability to speak. Friends gave him a speech synthesizer, which was installed on his wheelchair.
Despite the disease, he lead an active lifestyle. On April 26, 2007, he flew in zero gravity. Then a flight into space was planned, which did not take place. In 2017 Stephen Hawking died. To my mind Stephen Hawking was really an exceptional scientist in our generation. He set a great example to all of us as far as perserverance is concerned.
