A state as a certain union of people is based on the definite principles of coexistence and governed by the definite norms. It dates back to the slave owning formation. The first states in modern sense of this definition appeared at the epoch marked as B.C. (Before Christ). Its evolution was characterized by searching the most perfect form of people’s coexistence and governing. Each state must have: a permanent population; a definite territory over which it exercises authority; an effective government. The symbols of state sovereignty are the flag, the herald and the arms. There are currently over 180 states. When a new state comes into existence, it is automatically bound by international law. There are three branches of the state power. The branch which is responsible for the law – making activity is called legislative. The executive branch is responsible for governing various spheres of a society’s life, and judicial is responsible for delivery of justice.
