Установите соответствие между текстами А – Е и их темами, выбрав тему 1 – 6 из списка. Используйте каждую тему только один раз. В задании есть одна тема лишняя. This text deals with…. 1) a river used for farming. 2) a dirty river. 3) a river famous for its fish. 4) a river owned by two countries. 5) a tourist attraction. 6) a river used for travelling. A. The Potomac River boarders the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. As a result of mining and agriculture in this region, the Potomac became very polluted in the 19th century. The river was so dirty that President Lyndon Johnson referred to it as a “national disgrace”. Abraham Lincoln often tried to find higher ground in the summer to escape the terrible smell of the Potomac. B. The Colorado River is one of the most important rivers in the southwestern United States. The river is most known for its amazing nature. It flows through eleven National Parks and is surrounded by canyons. It is a huge tourist destination with people from all over the world visiting the Grand Canyon and embarking on exciting rafting trips. C. The Rio Grande River is, together with the Colorado River, one of the main rivers in the southwestern United States. It serves as part of the natural border between the United States and Mexico. After a series of agreements, it was decided that the two countries would share the water from the river. D. The Missouri River is the longest river in North America. For thousands of years the river has been a source of transportation. More than ten major groups of Native American tribes have lived on the banks of the river, travelling along it with their bison herds. During the 19th century the Missouri was the main way of the western expansion of the United States. E. The Mississippi River is the largest river in the United States. It flows from Northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. For thousands of years there have been Native Americans living along the Mississippi, growing plants and domestic animals for food. The name of the river comes from the Native American word “Misi-ziibi”. Запишите в таблицу выбранные цифры под соответствующими буквами.
