I think no one can describe future without robots. They are  mechanical  helpers of humans.
I can surely say that in the next 20 years better and cheaper technologies will appear in this field, that will lead to the creation of a market of robots of different functional purpose and difficulty level.
Sooner or later, robots will become an important part of our life, like computers or mobile phones in nowadays.
Robots become more similar to human. They can understand, help us if we need something. Also some of them look like a human! 
I think in future they will look exactly like a human. They'll able to speak, play, cook or something else like people also. 
Maybe they'll look like an animal too! It would be interesting to have a robocat or a robodog. 
I think they can be partner of humans, rather than stand-ins or servants.

То есть,

мы используем could для выражения возможности или что-то сделать вообще, в целом. В то время как managed to используется для того, чтобы указать, что кому-то удалось что-то сделать в конкретной, "единичной" ситуации.

Сравните:

Jack was an excellent tennis player when he was younger. He could beat anybody. (Джек отлично играл в теннис, когда был моложе. Он мог обыграть любого)
и
Jack and Andy played a match yesterday. Andy played well, but Jack managed to beat him. (Вчера Джек и Энди играли (в теннис). Энди играл хорошо, но Джек смог (Джеку удалось) обыграть его)

Вчем различие could и managed по словарю мёрфи?
