English Traditions
One of the most peculiar features of life in England which immediately strikes any visitor to this
country is the cherishing and preserving of many traditions, sometimes very archaic as they may seem.
Uniforms are not particularly characteristic of this fact. However, when one sees the warders at the
Tower of London with their funny flat hats, their trousers bound at the knee, and the royal monogram
on their breast, one feels carried back to the age of Queen Elisabeth I.
And you should chance to see the Lord Mayor of London riding through the streets of the city with
his black robe and gold chain, his medieval carriage, and all sheriffs, councillors and other members of
his suite, you have a picture of living history.
Tourists visiting London are usually eager to see Buckingham Palace, the official London residence
of the Queen and the King. The house was bought by George III from the Duke of Buckingham, from
whom it takes the name.
I had celebrated my last birthday in a very unusual way. I wanted to invite my friends for the party and birthday cake, and we were already planning all the details with my mother, but over sudden my small sister got seriously sick, and emergency took her with my mother to the hospital two days before my birthday. I felt myself lost, extremely worried about my sister, and helpless. All of my friends were already invited to the party and I didn’t know what to do. I called my best friend to talk about my problems and cancel the party, but he told me: “Let’s take the cake and go to the hospital!” Why didn’t I think about it myself? I called all my friends and asked them what did they think about the party in the hospital – and they all agreed to this plan. My father arranged the cake in the hospital, and some balloons for decoration, and also he invited a funny clown for all the children. The party was short, but very nice and filled with joy and happiness. We were playing games, laughing and eating my birthday cake, and I was very happy to be with my family, friends, and all the children from the hospital.
Однажды, богатая Ангичанка по имени миссис Джонсон решила устроить вечеринку в честь своего дня рождения. Она пригласила много гостей, а также одного певца. Певец был бедный, но с хороши голосом.
Он приехал в её дом в 6 часов, как и должен был, но когда он вошел в дом, он увидел через дверь, что столовая уже была полна гостей, сидящих вокруг стола в середине комнаты. Гости ели, шутили, смеялись и громко разговаривали. Миссис Джонсон вышла к нему, он подумал, что она собирается пригласить его к столу, но она сказала, «Мы рады, что вы пришли. Вы споёте после обеда, мы Вас позовём. пока, сходите на кухню и позавтракайте. »
