Selena Marie Gomez (born July 22, 1992)[4] is an American actress and recording artist. Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas.[4] She is the daughter of former stage actress Amanda Dawn "Mandy" Teefey (née Cornett) and Ricardo Joel Gomez.[6][7][8] Gomez was named after Tejano singer Selena, who died almost three years after Gomez was born.[Gomez names singer Bruno Mars as her major musical influence and idol, saying she is influenced in everything he does from "his style of music, his style in general, the way he performs, the way he carries himself".[133] She admires Ella Fitzgerald, calling Fitzgerald her "favorite singer" continuing to praise her "beautiful voice" and Katy Perry whom she said "isn’t afraid to be herself onstage.
