Minsk struck me with its architecture, wide streets, metro and lack of international franchises; it didn't matter to us whether it was early in the morning or in the middle of the night, the city seemed safe and quiet.
A few facts about Belarus:
- This is the only European country that is not a member of the Council of Europe due to the lack of human rights.
- There are strong economic ties with Russia, so when the sanctions affected the Russian economy, the Belarusian economy also suffered.
- Statistics say that Belarus is the country with the highest consumption of pure alcohol per capita, which should not be representative of the entire population, because I have met wonderful and non-drinking people who are now my friends.
- Minsk has more foggy days than London.
Even though Belarusians face huge problems with freedom of expression, the education system faces big problems, this country is worth visiting because of the big cultural differences (especially with the West), everything is cheaper there, and it is very safe, and no one could try to rob you, especially if you are a foreigner. I think that Belarus is a unique country and it has no analogues, because it has a unique history and unique nature, because there is a bit of a sea climate here, although there is no sea. On the map, Belarus may seem small, but in fact, it is a large and very rich country with a large number of inhabitants, flora and fauna, and stunning nature.
